Job description: 
  • Provide general advice and counsel with respect to legal matters handled by the Washington, DC office to assure consistency with and advancement of company's business objectives.
  • In capacity as Legal Department Representative for the Washington, DC Region, act as primary point-of-contact in the Legal Department to facilitate staffing of regional projects, communication between the Legal Department and the regional departments and implementation of systems and procedures to reflect regional goals.

  • Confer with senior management on transactional and business objectives and assure these are achieved
  • Communicate objectives to outside counsel as needed
  • Manage the efficient and effective delivery of services by the DC Legal Department for all leasing, construction and property management matters in the DC Region, including responding to requests from SVP, Regional Manager for information regarding legal systems and procedures, costs and strategies, processing leasing requests and assigning matters to in-house staff or outside counsel, monitoring workflow to assure that internal and external resources are being utilized in an efficient and cost-effective manner, and tracking legal costs in connection with preparation of property budgets
  • Supervise and direct the work of legal department staff in connection with the performance of essential functions
  • Analyze, structure, draft and negotiate – or oversee the work of others with respect to such activities – the legal documentation for acquisition, consultant, construction, development, joint venture, financing and leasing transactions
  • Manage due diligence reviews of acquisition target properties
  • Provide assistance on telecommunications matters
  • Select, engage and manage the work of outside counsel on acquisition, development, joint venture, financing and leasing transactions, and with non-insured litigation and collection matters
  • Consult with and advise property management staff on acquisition/transition issues, major service contracts, tenant matters and third-party management issues.
  • Review and negotiate contracts for brokerage agreements and management agreements
  • Review and negotiate confidentiality agreements relating to future acquisitions
  • Enforce terms of leases and resolve landlord/tenant disputes
  • Provide support and assistance on HR and employee matters
  • Confer with other legal department staff and participate in decision-making process with respect to legal matters having company-wide application

  • Undergraduate and Juris Doctor Degrees required
  • Admitted to practice law in applicable region required
  • A minimum of 10-12 years of progressively responsible, related and relevant work experience
  • Working knowledge of real estate, corporate, employment and general business law
  • Ability to produce quality work in a consistent manner
  • Ability to produce the quantity of work necessary to timely complete assigned tasks
  • Ability to interact with co-workers, contractors, tenants or vendors in an articulate, pleasant, courteous and business-like manner at all times
