Member based organization in Northern Virginia is looking for a VP of Operations & Strategy.

Job Type: Temp to Direct. This is a permanent position that could be part-time or full-time flex.
 
Hours/Schedule: 30 hours/week or could go to full-time flex. Flexible schedule.
 
Rate: $100-$120k as an FTE, prorated if hourly, part-time and rate based on experience.
 
Job Description: The VP Operations & Strategy is a key member of the Executive Team and will be responsible for managing the BD, Programs and Administrative Departments, and Policy and Communications Departments. Direct report to the President & CEO and will work closely and coordinate with President the VP of Government Relations.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Manage volunteer management team
  • Contribute to the coordinated development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices
  • Act as liaison for the staff to the CEO and Board of Directors to handle any organization issues, special projects, initiatives or implementation request
  • Act as direct project manager during all phases of event planning and execution
  • Responsible for the direct management, including hiring of department heads.
  • Assure effective coordination between all departments to execute against strategic programs and initiatives
  • Work with department heads to create annual team-specific plans to accomplish goals and objectives set forth in the Strategic Plan and at the direction of the Board and Executive Committee
  • In collaboration with Department Heads, ensure any department level change is delivered effectively.
  • Develop a broad and deep knowledge of all departmental goals
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight to staff supporting the development, implementation and dissemination of quality measures including member surveys and member and non-member interviews
  • Responsible for ensuring that Executive Committee and Board of Director meetings are planned and executed and that all resultant decisions and action items are acted upon in a timely and effective manner
  • In conjunction with the President & CEO and the Communications Team, manage the communication flow to the volunteer leadership including EC, Board and influencers
  • Manage and assure execution of the Board Nominations process
  • Research and coordinate, with the Director of Business Development, implementation of new membership benefits and retention efforts
  • Manage certain Member Councils, Committees and Task Forces to: generate critical member input; gain member commitments for time and energy on key initiatives; and manage cross-departmentally to build and implement quality-related resources that will help members navigate the many service offerings 
  • Lead staff, management and strategy meetings
  • Work with appropriate administrative staff to ensure that staff has the needed tools to succeed  He/she will also coordinate communication among staff on emerging issues and/or issues of growing concern
  • Improve the operational systems, processes and policies in support of organization’s mission -- specifically, support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process and organizational planning
  • Oversee and assist departments in creating and finalizing annual operating budgets and results performance
  • Play a significant role in long-term planning, including initiatives geared toward operational excellence
  • Develop tactical plans to accomplish stated objectives
  • Establish, maintain and evaluates metrics and dashboards to monitor the overall effectiveness of programs, marketing campaigns and service delivery
  • Represent the organization at appropriate internal and external functions
  • Maximize collateral revenue programs – including working with affinity program partners on related marketing campaigns and develop new, relevant opportunities to grow non-dues revenue
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7-10 years experience working with a member based organization
  • 5+ years in a management and leadership role
  • Strong working knowledge of a CRM system Weblink a plus
  • Exceptional communication skills, both phone and written  
  • Demonstrates initiative and possesses a can-do attitude
  • Able to multi-task and set priorities
  • Available for occasional early morning or evening events with advance notice
