Non-profit organization supporting children of military service members needs part-time bookkeeper 8 hrs/week to start immediately.

Position:  Bookkeeper 

Company: Non-profit organization that supports children of military service members and children of wounded warriors from all service branches. Grants pay for participation in activities that help children cope with stress and anxiety while their parents are recovering or absent.

Location:  McLean, VA
Job Type: Part-time contract to start (for one to two months) and then permanent if fit is good.
Hours/Schedule:  Starts Wednesday (6/21).  8 hours per week; Tuesdays and/or Thursdays.  Flexible schedule - can be one full day or two half days. 

Rate: $20 - $25/hour
Job Description:  Performs and provides oversight for diverse office functions and support for the organization.  Performs basic accounting functions and assists Executive Director in the coordination of grant disbursements and donation receipts.  Works under the supervision of and receive training from the Executive Director.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains assigned office and program records, files and databases
  • Coordinates and maintains organization’s financial records and reports as needed  (accounts receivable/payable, deposits, bank reconciliations, monthly income and expense statements)
  • Prepares grant checks for weekly mailing (approximately 100 checks per week)
  • Coordinates and classifies daily organization’s financial records  (donation receipts and invoices)
  • Participates in the payroll time-keeping process, updating employee benefit schedules
  • Provides general administrative management of office supplies, purchasing and maintenance of business equipment
  • Provides administrative support as assigned
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the organization's mission and the grant program to address them
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
  • Detail-oriented, analytical and highly organized
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills including:  Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel
  • Proficient in business English, spelling, punctuation and grammar
  • Daily work on time with few mistakes
  • Proficient in basic accounting and bookkeeping skills
  • Knowledge of standard business machines and computers
  • Able to work well independently
  • Experience with “QuickBooks” accounting system
