Start-up company in STEM educational software/systems for the Education market.
 
Job Title: Director Business Development (Full-time Flex)
 
Company: Innovative start-up / developer of cutting-edge STEM education systems and software.  Markets to K-12 schools, colleges and end consumers. Product is established and selling.  Revenue growing rapidly (double this year).
 
Location: Boston.  Must be on-site on Mondays and half day on Fridays.  Remaining work is virtual, but requires visits to area prospect sites.
 
Hours/Schedule: Full-time with schedule flexibility.
 
Rate:  $60,000-$70,000 base (commensurate with track record of success) plus up to 10% commission on sales (based on meeting sales targets).  
 
Job Description: Seeking an ambitious, entrepreneurial, and well-networked Business Development Director for the Education market. Target market is K-12, Universities and parents through resellers. Responsible for defining and executing the B2B and B2C go-to-market strategies.  Responsibilities include: 
  • Fine tune the value prop in Education and identify the business case, buyer and target accounts in New England market. 
  • Present and articulate the business value proposition with ease, clarity and confidence to executives representing entities of various sizes. 
  • Identify and establish reseller channels to sell direct to parents.
  • Establish, maintain, and grow new and existing relationships with entities the Education market. 
  • Create, implement, and own a business development pipeline. 
  • Monitor and pursue leads to ensure sales forecasting and revenue targets are achieved. 
  • Educate clients on industry developments and research. 
  • Collaborate with internal product and support teams to launch and cultivate solid partner relationships to increase business 
  • Define account development plans with clear prioritization, steps, and measurement of deal status. 
  • Travel to meet potential customers and prospects, when necessary. 
  • Prepare proposals to include required quotes and assessments of client needs. 
 
Qualifications:
  • BA/BS 
  • Minimum of 5 years business development or sales experience with software or data solutions in the Education market. 
  • Well-connected in the Education market with a deep understanding of the landscape, the key players and their business needs and challenges. 
  • Proven track record of business development success. 
  • Excellent people and social skills, and enjoys building relationships with clients and colleagues. 
  • Driven and ambitious with a clear ability to prioritize and work to deadlines. 
  • Fast learner who quickly comprehends new use cases, clients and technologies. 
  • Develops and applies creative and unconventional solutions to new and complex problems. 
  • Results focused – skilled at implementing complex strategies and working practices. 
  • Ability to be effective in a small / start up organization and develop credibility with peers. 
  • Comfortable with rapid directional change and ability to succeed during change. 
  • Clear vision and ability to lead change with strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Thrives in a fast-paced start-up environment.
