Location:  McLean, VA
Job Type: FT Flex with at least eight hours of flexibility in scheduled hours.
Hours/Schedule:  40 hours/week

Rate: TBD based on experience
  • Create/maintain correspondence regarding grant program with Family Program Directors, State Youth Coordinators, and Yellow Ribbon staff   
  • Promote grant program through regional media outreach in states experiencing large deployments
  • Write press releases to announce news relating to the grant program
  • Develop social media strategy to engage grant recipient families
  • Provide media training and message development to executive director prior to interview opportunities
  • Identify other organizations to partner with
  • Work with partner organizations to create effective events and marketing
  • Publicize all fundraisers and donors who want recognition
  • Present the mission to business leaders, communities and individual fundraisers
  • Coordinate, schedule and facilitate all media appearances
  • Develop annual communications/marketing strategic plan
  • Create and manage all media contacts
  • Serve as secondary point of contact for family inquiries regarding program eligibility and application status
  • Coordinate contests for grant recipient families such as Photo Contests, and Essay Contests
  • Initiate electronic communication with grant recipient families during deployment
  •  Annual Event – script writing and coordinating the audio/visual needs
  • Work with outside fundraiser to ensure our brand
  • Facilitate new events to fundraise or honor families
  • Produce/distribute quarterly newsletter and donor report to Military Legislative Assistants for purpose of outreach
  • Create relationships with staffers and representatives to better serve their state
  • Prepare thank you flyer
  • Update white paper
  • Work with Development to create and distribute monthly donor newsletter
  • Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, and website and blog
  • Coordinate webpage maintenance—ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly
  • Recognize donors on Facebook and other social media outlets
  • Support organizational fundraisers, events, projects and tasks as needed
  • Representative in the external community, taking advantage of opportunities to share our story and build relationships
  • Work as a team to support organizational fundraising and development goals
  • Active participation in identifying potential donors
  • Other Duties as Assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or other related fields (Master’s degree a plus)
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the communications field
  • Experience working with the military a plus
  • Strong writing skills
  • Comfortable with all forms of social media – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with the rest of the team
  • Close attention to detail
  • Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends
  • Veterans and family members of veterans strongly encouraged to apply
  • Working knowledge of WordPress and InDesign
