Arlington, VA consulting firm is looking for an HR Assistant who has a strong understanding of business and an appreciation for how HR programs enable business strategy

Location:  Arlington, VA

Hours/Schedule:  30 hours/week (possibly more), on site

Pay Rate:  $35/hour

Job Description: The Human Resources Assistant is responsible for performing HR-related duties and will work closely with senior leadership. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits education, employee relations, training, orientation/onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, affirmative action and employment law compliance.

  • Manage HR lifecycle functions, including paperwork, such as Form I-9, W-4s, direct deposit, employee handbook, etc.
  • Design and implement employee training, management development and team building strategies that support business objectives and compliance
  • Implement and monitor a performance review program which addresses both performance improvement and career development needs
  • Be available and accessible to all employees to resolve employee issues
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments, best practices and trends in HR and other functional areas that may impact the Company
  • Coordinate and educate employees on benefit options, enrollment and modify coverage on an as needed basis
  • Coordinate and lead new hire orientation, building tours and team introductions
  • Provides HR Policy guidance addressing employee relations issues with senior leadership
  • Work with senior leadership to strategic and tactical HR initiatives
  • Implement HR reporting rhythms, such as monthly reports on new hires, terminations and anniversaries
  • Conducts new hire check- ins, exit interviews and annual employee experience surveys
  • Support payroll team with confirming payroll deductions
  • Maintains internal databases including employee files and company intranet

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant HR-related work experience is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field is required
  • Must be technically proficient, i.e., have had experience with an HRIS, have ability to quickly learn new systems, and be strong in MS Office.
  • Current or past experience working in a small and medium business environment that is fast growing is preferred
  • Knowledge of applicable State and Federal Employment Laws and Standards is required       
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Experience with Application Tracking Systems is required
  • Experience in government contracting industry is highly preferred
  • PHR or SPHR is highly preferred
