Hours: 20 hrs/week up to full-time

Rate: $40-$50/hour

Job Description: Responsible for the initiation, maintenance, and litigation of client matters under the supervision of the firm’s principal and senior associates. Firm focused in the areas of family law, real estate, bankruptcy, estate planning, and small business formation.

  • Initial client consultation and case evaluation
  • Draft and edit case initiation and responsive pleadings necessary for ongoing client matters
  • Undertake legal research and draft legal memoranda for complex issues
  • Maintain communication with clients, courts, counsel, and witnesses
  • Oversee the discovery process, including requests, responses, and objections. 
  • Coordinate trial preparation with legal assistants, paralegals, and co-counsel when necessary
  • Actively market the comparative advantage of the firm’s services
  • At least 3+ years as a practicing attorney
  • Virginia State Bar member in good standing
  • Proficiency in legal research, including the LexisAdvance platform
  • Experience and interest in civil litigation, including but not limited to personal injury, domestic relations, contracts, and other business matters
  • Proficiency with legal writing and drafting
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage and schedule a diverse caseload and to meet hard internal and external deadlines
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues in a collegial setting with fellow counsel
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, attorneys, co-workers, and other outside professionals
  • Demonstrated proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
  • Admission to federal Bar(s) or Bar of states other than Virginia a plus
  • Experience with bankruptcy, real estate issues, and estate planning issues preferred
