Job Description:  Experienced research analyst with a strong analytical background needed to direct projects for public sector, commercial and non-profit organizations.   The Senior Research Analyst is responsible for managing all phases of the research process – from research design to questionnaire development, fieldwork oversight, and data analysis. As the subject matter expert for research and data analytics, deliver on a variety of client projects while spending 15-20% of their time assisting with the business development process to generate revenue for the company.  The Senior Research Analyst needs to have a strong interest in a more non-traditional research role, using large data sets combined with traditional survey data and a certain curiosity to dive into the data and enjoy searching for patterns that could indicate new insights. 

Key Priorities:
  • Lead discussions to identify clients’ information needs and develop research and data analytics programs aligned with clients’ objectives.
  • Learning what drives each client organization, what influences a company’s strategy and how the data can contribute to the success of the company’s strategy.
  • Manage and/or conduct qualitative and quantitative research studies, coordinating internal and contract resources to deliver high-quality outcomes to clients.
  • Lead complex data analytics projects where siloed data (at time very large data sets) are brought together to provide business insights to clients
  • Serves as a key member of the business development team; networking with targeted groups, evaluating opportunities, engaging in consultative selling, supporting the BD team in the preparation of proposals, and follow-up with prospects.

Responsibilities: 

Research Design and Data Analysis
  • Lead development and design of original surveys
  • Develop non-survey research plans for complex data analysis, adjusting as needed depending upon client data structures and project goals 
  • Understand and solve client problems using statistical software and other technologies that are available.  Conduct advanced analyses of survey datasets including logistic regression and multi-level modeling
  • Interpret results of studies and make actionable recommendations to clients that tie back to the client objective.
  • Present research findings to senior executive teams and lead discussions of the strategic implications.
  • Act as a consultant on research best practices and techniques for internal and external clients. 
  • Stay abreast of latest developments in “big data”, survey and social and demographic trends research field
  • Conduct background research for new projects and potential research projects
  • Maintain familiarity with developments in survey research and data collection methodologies and best practices through our affiliation with the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) and other similar industry organizations.  

Project Planning and Management
  • Responsible for project planning and budget, and mentoring consultant division team members to meet/exceed customer expectations.
  • Define project parameters, create questionnaires, oversee data collection, lead analysis and report writing, and maintain quality control of all project deliverables.
  • Manage research partners and service vendors to ensure client engagements are completed to specifications, on time, and within budget 
  • Map out project timelines and manage deadlines for deliverables
  • Help develop and supervise junior staff
  • Train new staff as necessary
 
Business Development/Writing and Communication
  • Support BD team in preparation of proposals, with a particular focus on the proposed analytical approach/research design
  • Respond to external requests for information
  • Present research findings to target audiences
  • Create content to further enhance ORI’s presence and thought leadership recognition.  Examples:  website content, blogs, social media posts, marketing collateral, ORI sponsored research projects
  • Participate and volunteer with local industry specific organizations.
  • Identify thought-leadership initiatives to drive awareness of ORI. These can be internally developed research projects, educational sessions, events, etc.
  • Prepare and present seminars and workshops.
 
Qualifications: 
  • Five plus years of experience with social science data collection, research design and analysis
  • Masters in social science, math, statistics
  • Demonstrated experience working in teams with professional staff and managing activities across the work unit
  • Great educational background, preferably Masters in business, social sciences and/or computer science and statistics
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills, with demonstrated experience in a consulting capacity where delivering on existing projects while positioning for next steps in the work was a requirement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven working experience overseeing project deliverables while managing multiple different projects
  • Intermediate to advanced mathematical & statistical ability, with understanding or hands-on experience designing research projects, conducting data analysis and reporting on key insights
  • Working knowledge of Tableau/SPSS/SAS/R is a plus
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work under tight time constraints
  • Flexible and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously without sacrificing quality
  • Local travel to potential client sites requires employee to arrange own transportation
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
